From the Preface

Welcome to the Eighteenth Annual Meeting of the Eastern Academy of Management. The program this year consists of an unusually eclectic mixture of experiential materials, traditional research papers, panels, discussion sessions, workshops, and even films. Both established professionals and new scholars are represented, along with management practitioners. Our topics range from the Roots of Management Thought through issues of personal career management to matters of professional interest concerning the present and future of management and teaching. Research methods, classroom techniques, empirical findings, and the philosophy of our profession all find place here. Of particular interest this year are a case teaching session, a panel on managing the academic career, a Wine Entrepreneurs' Panel and Tasting, and a first-rate film program. Except for the Distinguished Speaker and the Wine Entrepreneurs' Panel, every segment of the program features multiple concurrent sessions.

All program materials, including the "invited" symposia, were subjected to blind review prior to acceptance. Some 127 papers and proposals for panels, symposia, and workshops were submitted for review this year. Even with a tightly packed program, only about one third of the papers submitted could be accepted.
