Workbook for Implementing the Tracks: Volume II... and Overhead Slides for Implementing the Tracks: Volume II (Newport Coast, CA: Organizational Design Consultants, 1991-2007)
by Ralph H. Kilmann
Overview
The Workbook for Implementing the Tracks: Volumes I, II, III has recently been updated to reflect Ralph Kilmann's Eight-Track Program that is formally presented in his book, Quantum Organizations. The three-volume Workbooks provide all the essential materials (cases, exercises, instruments, surveys, overhead slides, ethical guidelines, and logistical procedures) so that all organizational members can actively—and effectively—participate in quantum transformation. All the materials are completely integrated and professionally designed into one-day-per-month workshop sessions: the most practical—and beautiful—combination of workshop materials ever developed for organizational transformation. Moreover, The Workbooks are not a pick-and-choose collection of previously available items, but are a completely integrated program of original materials. Taking more than twenty years to develop, The Workbooks have been utilized for achieving organizational success and personal meaning throughout the world. And Kilmann's Logistic Manual for Implementing the Tracks provides a Logistics Coordinator and a Logistics Team with the behind-the-scenes guidelines for implementing the tracks—smoothly and successfully.
The design of the Workbooks enables organizations to distribute the relevant materials to every participant—as the Eight-Track program progresses. Part One (Understanding the Program) is usually distributed before any of the workshop sessions begin—as a total package of background material for every participant. Part Two (The First Three Tracks) can be distributed to participants one chapter at a time—at the start of each workshop session. Part Three (The Next Two Tracks) can be distributed to all participants when two special task forces—representing all areas and levels in the organization—are established to address the strategy-structure and reward system barriers to success. Part Four (Evaluating the Program) can be distributed when the organization is ready to examine what impact the completely integrated program has had on key aspects of organizational success. Lastly, Part Five (The Three Process Tracks) can be distributed as the formal systems are being designed—when the organization is ready for process management (including total quality management, business process reengineering, and organizational learning).
The Workbook Volume II—796 pages in total—provides three workshop sessions in the team track, which completes the first three tracks of the Eight-Track Program. Then the next two tracks begin with a one-day workshop in the strategy-structure track and a one-day workshop in the reward system track. Volume II next provides the materials and discussions for the next sessions in these two tracks for action steps to redesign the formal systems in the organization. These workshop sessions are intended for two task forces of about 25 participants each (one task force for each track), who represent all specialties, levels, and locations in the organization. The last chapter in Volume II, Chapter 15, provides five quantitative assessments to evaluate important aspects of organizational functioning (relative to when these assessments were taken much earlier in the program), which sets the stage for additional group discussions to identify and close the crucial gaps between "what is" and "what could or should be." All materials in Volume II build upon the basic cultural norms and skill development first addressed throughout Volume I.

(325 Slides)
These 8.5 x 11 inch slides are numbered to correspond to the exact page in the Workbook where these slides are presented and discussed. Note: On that corresponding page in the Workbook, each overhead slide is reproduced in a smaller format, which leaves room for printed notes and extra space for adding additional comments. All slides are in a pdf file (Acrobat), which can be used as a formal slide presentation—via a laptop computer, screen, and projector.
